(I’ll be back for another chat at noon Thursday. Following a few technical glitches out of the gate, last week’s went well, with a lot of questions. This week I hope to answer more of them and stick around for 75 minutes or so. Click here to ask a question. Look forward to hearing from you).
What the best-case scenario for the Dolphins on Day One of the draft?
ESPN’s Todd McShay weighed in earlier.
By now, everyone knows the Dolphins primary needs: a wide receiver, cornerback, nose tackle and pass-rushing outside linebacker … not necessarily in that order.
During a media conference call Tuesday, McShay laid out a specific plan of attack that would yield the Dolphins what they need with their first three picks (Nos. 25, 44, 56).
He knows it goes against the philosophy of Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland, but McShay said he thinks the Dolphins will end up with physical WR with the first pick.
“It’s difficult because you look at what they like to do in terms of drafting,” McShay said of the Dolphins’ decision-makers.
But McShay said he’s still thinking Parcells and Co. might settle on Rutgers’ Kenny Britt (6-2 7/8, 218) or UNC’s Hakeem Nicks (6-0 3/4, 212).
In the second round, McShay likes Boston College 329-pound DT Ron Brace, who is the best nose tackle prospect in the draft, with pick No. 44, followed a dozen selections later by Vanderbilt CB D.J. Moore.
Moore is a bit undersized at 5-8 7/8, 192 pounds, and fell out of first-round consideration with pedestrian 40 times. But Moore is a smooth, skilled player who excelled in the SEC.
“I just think he is a very good football player,” McShay said. “I think Miami will do a good job recognizing those kinds of players.
“A combination of those three players would be a great start for the draft for them on Day One.”
Interestingly, but not surprisingly given the nature of mock drafts, McShay’s new, seven-round mock draft released today has Illinois CB Vontae Davis, Georgia WR Mohamed Massaquoi and Richmond DE Lawrence Sidbury going to Miami with the first three picks.
Go figure.
So, what’s your best-case scenario for Day One?
